Suspected gunmen kill soldier in Benin and steal bags of money

Some suspected gunmen have killed a soldier in Benin and also stole some bags of money. These gunmen were armed and they attacked an Army patrol van on Wednesday Benin City in Edo State.

There were 3 soldiers in the army patrol van when these gunmen attacked them. They were heading to Ikpoba Hill when the robbers attacked at the traffic lights at Akpakpava Road. This incident occurred around 2.10 pm. These gunmen killed a soldier and stole some bags that were reportedly filled with money.

These gunmen had been driving in a Toyota Camry car. They drove against the traffic and far oncoming vehicles. They faced the military vehicle and opened fire on the soldiers. The soldiers in the van had fled the scene but one of them had been shot.
Some eyewitnesses at the scene revealed that these men, seeing as the soldiers had fled, took the money bags from the van.

The Edo state Police Public Relations Officer, who is SP Chidi Nwabuzor has confirmed the incident. He shared that it was a good Nigerian who had reported the case at the police station.

He revealed “The Edo State Police Command can confirm that a soldier was killed on Wednesday in Benin City. A good Nigerian reported the incident at the police station covering that neighbourhood. The hoodlums carted away bags believed to have been loaded with cash kept inside the Army van.”
