Barcelona and Atletico Madrid appear to be getting ready to battle for the signature of Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

Greenwood, who is currently on loan at Getafe, has caught the eyes of these two Spanish giants.

Mason Greenwood joined Getafe on a one-season loan deal on September 1, 2023.

The Englishman has been outstanding at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, producing magnificent performances and scoring influential goals.

Atletico Madrid have made an initial approach over a potential move for Mason Greenwood, as they see his qualities and would want him to be part of their set-up.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have reportedly tabled an enticing offer to land the 22-year-old.

The Catalan-based club will apparently put forward a £40 million bid to land the Englishman, and they are also willing to hand him Lionel Messi's old No 10 jersey in the 2024 summer transfer window.

Manchester United have initially claimed that Greenwood will play no part in the club's immediate future, and as such he could likely be headed elsewhere in the coming years.

Manchester United's decision came after criminal allegations filed against Mason Greenwood for rape, assault, and coercive control were dropped.

There are however shouts from some fans of the Red Devils, who would still love to see Mason Greenwood play for the team in the coming seasons.

The 22-year-old has rekindled his career in Spain, scoring 5 goals and providing 4 assists in 15 appearances across all competitions for Getafe.

His over one-year unavailability for action looked like it would make him lose touch, however, he appears to be back to his best and boisterous mode.

Getafe are also keen on signing Mason Greenwood permanently, but they will Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and some other teams that might come into the mix to sign the attacker.

Patricio Moreno's side currently occupy the 8th spot on the table, with 26 points from 18 league matches.

They are currently on a 4-game unbeaten run across all competitions, with their last encounter for 2023 coming against Atletico Madrid in a 3-3 draw at the Metropolitano.

Speaking after the encounter, Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann lauded Mason Greenwood for his brilliance in the game.

Griezmann said: “Mason Greenwood was really causing us problems in the second half.

“We couldn’t stop him and it cost us the game.”

Greenwood is well-loved at Getafe, with the majority of the Madrid-based fans showing their love for him regularly.

The 22-year-old doesn't seem to be in the picture for the upcoming Euro that will be held in 2024, and it is therefore difficult to predict if he will make the England squad for the tournament.

Meanwhile, Getafe return to action on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, in a Spanish La Liga fixture against Rayo Vallecano.
