Manchester United will be hoping to consolidate on their morale-boosting point picked up last weekend against Liverpool when they take a trip to the London Stadium to play West Ham United.

Erik Ten Hag stirred the Red Devils to a 0-0 draw at Anfield, one of Manchester United's most hostile grounds ever to visit.

Manchester United had several chances to score against Liverpool, but unfortunately, they couldn't find the back of the net.

However, they will be pleased and content with the result, and their spirited performance on Sunday, December 17, 2023.

Both teams go into that game off the back of facing Liverpool, with Manchester United picking up a creditable draw as aforementioned, and West Ham United losing horribly by 5-1.

David Moyes rested many of his key players for the EFL Cup encounter and he was ultimately punished for his decisions.

West Ham United currently occupy the 9th spot on the Premier League table, having picked up 27 points in 17 matches.

Manchester United, who will expect the return of Bruno Fernandes to the starting XI, after being absent from the visit to Anfield due to suspension sit 7th on the log with 28 points, 1 point better than their upcoming opposition.

This certainly indicates that Saturday, December 22, 2023, showdown will be a keenly contested affair.

Erik Ten Hag will be hoping for a victory from his side which will draw them closer to the top 4, while the Hammers will be hoping to usurp Manchester United on the table with a victory.

These two teams have often been fierce at each other, particularly on their home turf, with the Red Devils recording a 1-0 league win at Old Trafford, courtesy of a Marcus Rashford header last season.

For West Ham United, at the London Stadium, a howler from David De Gea resulted in Said Benrahma pouncing and taking full advantage for David Moyes' side.

Manchester United haven't won at the London Stadium since 2021, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Jesse Lingard scoring for an Ole Gunnar Solskjaer-led team then.

The Red Devils only have the FA Cup and Premier League to battle for this campaign, having crashed out in the Carabao Cup and UEFA Champions League already this term.

They are 6 points from 4th-placed Manchester City, and game by game their chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League continue to get dimmer.

However, they can see it in a different light, with them being able to concentrate on only the league and the FA Cup.

They have had a goalscoring problem this campaign, but information from several sources claims that the Red Devils aren't looking at doing business in the 2024 January transfer window.

Meanwhile, West Ham United finished top of their Europa League group, with 15 points from 6 matches.

The Hammers lost just a game in the group phase, winning the other 5 matches, and having won the UEFA Europa Conference League last campaign, they have their sights on a bigger pie.

Anyway, after their upcoming game against the Red Devils, they close the year with a trip to the Emirates to play Arsenal, while Manchester United have Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest still to play before the commencement of 2024.
