Senator Atiku Abubakar GCON is a Nigerian politician and businessman born on 25th November 1946 in Jada, the then British Cameroon, now Adamawa State. Atiku is the only child of his parents, Mr Garba Abubakar and Aisha Kande.

Atiku's father never wanted him to go to school because he disliked the idea of Western education. As a result, Atiku's father was thrown into jail before he was later released on bail by his mother. Atiku Abubakar attended Jada Primary School in Adamawa before proceeding to Adamawa Provincial Secondary School.
Atiku graduated from secondary school and proceeded to the Nigeria Police Force in Kaduna but he couldn't finish because he didn't pass Mathematics in his O-levels. He later gained admission into the School of Hygiene in Kano in 1966. The following year, Atiku obtained a diploma in Law at Ahmadu Bello University Institute of Administration. He served for a while in the Nigeria Customs Service during the Nigerian Civil War in 1969. He obtained a Master's degree in International Relations from Anglia Ruskin University in the UK.

Atiku Abubakar has a total of twenty eight children and married five wives. He married his first wife Titilayo Albert in 1971 and has four children from their union. He got married to his second wife Ladi Yakubu in 1979 but divorced her many years later. He has six children with her. In 1983, he married Princess Rukayatu Mustafa and she bore seven children for him. He married Fatima Shettima in 1986 and they have seven children together. After divorcing Ladi, Atiku went on to marry Jeniffer Iwenjiora Douglas but they divorced in 2021 due to frequent misunderstandings.

Atiku Abubakar served as vice president from May 29, 1999 to 2007 under former president Olusegun Obasanjo. During his tenure, he was the chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC) and the head of the National Council on Privatisation. Atiku's relationship with Obasanjo was a rocky one and this caused him to deflect from his political party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) now APC. He was chosen to run for president in 2006 under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) but his name was removed from the ballot due to corruption allegations. He eventually ran for president but he came third.
After the elections, he returned to PDP and made his intention known to run for president the second time but didn't win. Atiku Abubakar has contested for president six times in 1999, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023 but he didn't win.
