Ezenwo Nyesom Wike is a Nigerian politician and lawyer. He is the former governor of Rivers State for two terms from 2015-2023. He became the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on 21st August 2023.

Political career
He began his political career in 1999 when he served as the Executive Chairman of Obio-Akpor LGA till 2007. After leaving the position, he became the chief of staff to the then Governor of Rivers State Rotimi Amaechi from 2007-2011. He became the Minister of State for Education under former president Goodluck Jonathan from 14th July 2011 to April 2014.
He was appointed the Minister of Education from 11th September 2013 to April 2014 after Goodluck Jonathan impeached the then Minister of Education Ruqayyah Ahmed Rufai due to party issues. Nyesom Wike was elected as the 6th governor of Rivers State on 29th May 2015. He ruled for eight years and was succeeded by the current governor Siminalayi Fubura. In 2022, Wike declared his intentions to run for office of the president under the People's Democratic party (PDP) but he was defeated by Atiku Abubakar during the primaries. On 21st August 2023, he assumed office as the Minister of FCT under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.
