That makes sense honestly.
MTN Nigeria and other ICT-related stocks pulling that kind of volume just shows where attention is shifting.
Nigeria is going more digital—fintech, data, payments—so it’s normal investors are moving there.
Feels like this sector could be a major driver going forward. Let’s see if it sustains.
Sure!

Well not a lot of technology stocks are are on the Nigeria stock exchagne though. Most of our IT companies are still private and many will most likely be private for a long time. It just occurred to me that we even have IT companies on our exchange. So what does this company really do? how do the make money?

Last week, the ICT sector recorded the highest trading volume in the Nigerian stock market, contributing over 60% of total shares traded. This shows that investors are now focusing more on technology and fintech companies in Nigeria.

Technology companies may become one of the most important sectors in the Nigerian stock market because Nigeria is moving towards a digital economy.
Is ICT a company on its own or a tech sector, sorry I havent invested in tech companies before, but i want to know more about them. Tired of bank stocks.

ICT companies in Nigeria make money mainly through subscription services, technology services, fintech transactions, and infrastructure leasing.
Telecom companies like MTN and Airtel make money from data, calls, and mobile money transactions. Internet companies make money from broadband subscriptions. IT companies make money by providing software, cloud, and cybersecurity services to businesses and government. Some ICT companies also make money by building fibre networks and leasing them to other companies.
So the growth of ICT companies usually depends on:
Number of subscribers
Data usage
Digital payments
Internet penetration
Business technology demand

ICT is not a single company, it is a sector (industry). ICT means Information and Communication Technology sector.
Just like we have:
Banking sector
Oil and Gas sector
Consumer goods sector
We also have ICT sector, which includes companies like:
MTN Nigeria
Airtel Africa
Legend Internet Plc
CWG Plc
So ICT is a tech sector, not one company.
Why Some Investors Like ICT Stocks
Investors like ICT/tech stocks because:
Data usage is increasing
Internet usage is increasing
Digital payments are increasing
Businesses are moving online
Technology companies can grow very fast
Simple Investment Idea
Bank stocks → Good for dividend
ICT stocks → Good for growth
That is why many investors try to balance bank stocks and tech stocks in their portfolio.
