A woman has been arraigned in court recently over some threat messages she had shared on WhatsApp. This woman was arraigned at a Lagos Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ikoyi Custodial Centre.
This incident occurred on Tuesday, August 22 2023. The woman has been identified as Chinose Esiaka and she is 35 years old.

She had sent some threat messages on WhatsApp and this was what led to her arrest and arraignment. She allegedly threatened to kill and kidnap three minors between age 3 to 9 years old.

She has been arraigned on four counts of threat to kill, publication of pictures of the complainant, reproduction of rumour and threat to kidnap. All these charges were preferred against her by the police.

It was the police prosecutor, who is Inspector Friday Mameh, who revealed to the court that she committed the crime in 2022 and again between January and March 2023.
She had sent a threat message to a WhatsApp group which is Rackward Lagos Chapter. She wrote a threat to kill a Frank Ewuzie.

He said “Esiaka sometimes between 2022 and March 2023, via your phone number in the public WhatsApp group, Rackward Lagos Chapter, did publish or reproduce statement, rumour or report against one Ewuzie which is likely to cause fear and alarm to the public or to disturb the public peace, knowing or having reason to believe that such publications are false,”

The Magistrate in the court sitting, Magistrate Mcdavies Amore remanded her until they receive legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions. The court didn't take her plea and remanded her at the Kirikiri Custodial Centre.
The case has been adjourned till the 29th of September 2023.
